The pilgrimage to visit Our Lady of Buen Suceso of the Purificación in Quito, Ecuador began on January 24, 2019 with 200 pilgrims gathering in the shrine for a 5am pre-dawn procession to various religious communities in the historic city center of Quito, Ecuador. Fr. Gerald Fallarcuna addressed the pilgrims in Spanish, saying “This year is special as a mission for us to the Ecuadorian government, which is considering approving abortion in this very Catholic country. To all of you the nuns and the pilgrims, our first intention is for our own intention and for our sanctification, but also so that the government would stay with its Catholic traditions and not approve abortion.”
Afterwards, the pilgrims return to the shrine, where several Masses were offered on many altars with the gracious permission of the local ordinary, Abp. Fausto Travez Travez, O.F.M.
